Philip Whitchurch

Philip has is a well known face on both British television and the London stage.  His native accent is from Liverpool but he can get his mouth around most regional accents (including Birmingham, Geordie, Lancashire and Manchester).

His film credits include The Fisherman in Beowulf & Grendel, Carlin in Three Blind Mice, Woodberry in Wondrous Oblivion, Jeff in Punchbag, Drago in Shot Through The Heart, Black Dog in Treasure Island, Corporal Dade in The English Patient, and Blackner in Blue Ice.

Philip's most recent TV appearances include Jim Brown in Waking The Dead (‘Skin’ parts 1 & 2, BBC), Tyler in My Hero (6 series), Lloyd Edwards in Rocket Man (BBC) co-starring with Robson Green, Harry Gibby in Macbeth, and Peter Jacobs in New Tricks (BBC).  Other credits include Micky Blackburn in If Waste (BBC), Les Morgan in Holby City (BBC), Tommy Jones in Doctors, Trevetheik in The Last Detective (BBC), Det.Supt.Tom Cross in Wire In The Blood, ‘Sweet William’ Fredrickson in Sharpe (several episodes), Chief Inspector Cato in The Bill (a regular for 2 years), Paul Bolt in Casualty (BBC), Frankie Murray in GBH, and Eric in Van Der Valk. 

On stage he’s played Jack (Billy’s father) in Billy Elliot The Musical (Victoria Palace Theatre), Eddie Carbone in View From The Bridge (Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch), Shalimov in Summerfolk, Vasques in Tis Pity She’s A Whore (Young Vic Theatre), Inspector Goole in An Inspector Calls (The Garrick Theatre), Walsh in The Changing Room (Royal Court Theatre), and Talthybius in Women Of Troy (National Theatre).

In his VO work he’s probably best known for voicing all the characters in the BAFTA nominated cartoon series, The Shoe People.  More recently he narrated a piece for BT Sport’s coverage of Everton & Liverpool FCs long rivalry building up to a showdown game (see video clip, at bottom right of this page).  Other voice work includes commercials for McDonald's, Fiat Punto, Thomas The Tank Engine, and Tomy Toys, and ADR/dubbing for the BBC2 Reputations documentary on Pelé.
