Richard Waters

RP. Light, smooth, resonant, flexible. A hint of Northern. Classy yet classless.

RP. Light, smooth, resonant, flexible. Hailing from Manchester Richard is comfortable with Mancunian and Lancashire accents, as well as cockney and Gloucestershire. Friendly gentle sell with a flavour of Richard Burton.

Richard appeared widely in film, theatre and TV before switching to travel-writing in his mid thirties, whilst also continuing to work as a voiceover artist.

His Film credits included those for Killer Tongue with horror meister Robert Englund, Luminal with Denis Lavant and Leads in The Temple Project and When Evil Calls. TV parts include Holby City, Eastenders, William and Mary, Get Real, Doctors, and Hotel Babylon. His most notable stage role was playing hellraiser Richard Burton in his own one-man play, Red Wings, On the Rocks with Richard Burton, which Richard performed on BBC Radio Wales, as well as Theatre 503 and Theater Clwyd. He is sometimes approached when a client needs a velvety Burton-style voice, as was the case when he voiced the Great North Run.

Richard's voice work includes commercials for Sainsbury's, Wilkinson Sword, Telstar, Sony and several government awareness campaigns.  He's also recorded promos for Challenge, and games for Gremlin, Sony Playstation (e.g. Judge Dredd) and Infogrames (e.g. Hardwar).  He's recorded documentaries for Discovery Channel and National Geographic, and corporates for Betfair Poker, Townsend Jewellers, Laing O'Rourke and Diagio.

Richard has co-authored 25 books for Lonely Planet on places such as Transylvania, Malawi, Greece, Laos and Borneo, and regularly writes for British travel desks including: Sunday Times, Financial Times, Telegraph, 'I' newspaper and The Observer.  You'll find him looking for the world's biggest bear in Alaska, searching for ghosts at America's most haunted hotel, and pretty much anywhere there is a wildlife story. A recent assignment for the Financial Times was freediving with sperm whales near the Island of Dominica. Given such an extensive field of experience in writing, it lends itself to writing continuity in a broad range of styles.

Richard also helps celebrities develop their one-man tours. Recently he worked with TV star and ex Special Forces soldier, Ant Middleton co-writing and directing his sellout one-man show. His next victim is Ben Fogle later this year (2018).
